Life is full of new beginnings. We generally look at this time of year as an opportunity to make changes in our lives; to lose weight, or exercise more, or work harder, or be happier. It seems that each year, as we turn the page of our calendar to January 1st, we feel the desire to “wipe the slate clean” and begin anew.

In truth, each day offers us this same opportunity. Why should a date on a calendar be the driving impetus for us to honor ourselves and others? Each day is a new opportunity for change. Each moment offers us the freedom of choice. And regardless of whether or not we have followed our desire to honor self in any moment, what prevents us from picking up the pieces we have scattered and creating a new opportunity for success in the next moment of our lives?

Renewal and rebirth occurs around us all the time. Babies are born every day of the year. Rainfalls clean our earth without care for the time or the date. Flowers bloom with the change of seasons, and the waters of life flow down from our mountains every day, all year long.

We should not choose to make positive changes in our lives simply because we are beginning a new year. It is important to recognize our choices to change, and honor all the choices we have made to date. Each choice, regardless of what it is, is an opportunity to learn, to grow... and yes, perhaps to change. In all moments we make choices. When we step back and look at our lives and realize how much happier we could be with new choices, then simply choose anew and change patterns of the past. Each day is a new opportunity to be the you that you want to be. Don’t be guided by the days on a calendar, or the hours on a clock. Live each moment NOW as if it is the only one you have, for in truth, it is! Recognize that life is always this moment of living, and simply choose to live it as powerfully, as honorably, and as joyously as you can.

Choose to be the best that you can be, and if it means losing a few pounds, then do so in joy. If it means exercising more, then honor your body and have fun while you make that choice. Work harder because you love your job, and find joy in the moments of your day. Each thought can equally be one of pleasure as it can be one of pain. So choose carefully, and be aware of yourself. Not only today, but everyday!

With love, Marilyn
